The Moomins and the Great Flood was the first Moomin book published in 1945.
During the war-winter 1939 Tove Jansson had a feeling of trying something else than drawing. She decided to write a story about an ugly little creature, that she had been drawing for the Garmin-magazine. After the war the story was published in 1945. The name Moomintroll wasn't good enough for the publisher, so the story came out under the name of Littletrolls and the Great Flood (Småtrollen och den stora översvämmingen).
In the story itself Moomin and his mother Moominmamma are looking for their father, Moominpappa, during a great flood. On their adventure they meet up with a small creature called Sniff, and other beings as well. The trip leads them through candyland and storms, but in the end they live happily ever after.
